If we can't look to others or to the future, then we can only look at the past and inwards.
Explanation
Since Postmodernism rejects universal truth in favor of context-dependent meaning is about deconstruction, we can no longer have unified Narratives shape perception and identity by constructing subjective reality or grand ideologies that combine us, or give us purpose and goals for the future, after all everything is either relative or without meaning. We miss those times where we were unified, where we felt part of something bigger.
Why it matters

We become narcistics and nostalgic, no wonder our economy is selling us nostalgia, and focuses more on remixing than creating something new.
Supporters
Uncertainty pushes this further: Uncertainty creates anxiety when knowledge and control are incomplete shows that when the future is genuinely unknowable, we abandon anything future-dependent and retreat to what's immediate — the same instinct that pulls us backward to the past.
Opposers
But the past we retreat to isn't fixed either — We rewrite our memories every time we access them argues that memory isn't a stable anchor at all, it's rewritten every time we access it, so looking backward for certainty may be chasing a moving target.
