Neutrality

Notes

Neutrality can be understood through two opposing approaches to achieving balance.

Canceling Forces

Exclusive neutrality seeks balance by canceling all outside forces — the scientific method pursues this by isolating variables and controlling for interference.

Balancing Voices

Inclusive neutrality seeks balance by representing all voices equally — the humanities embrace this approach, since the observer can never be fully removed from the equation.
