Statistics

Notes

Statistics is the discipline of measuring, analyzing, and drawing valid conclusions from data. Its core challenge is not computation but epistemology: knowing which conclusions the data actually supports and which it does not.

Randomness and the Limits of Prediction

Randomness examines what randomness actually is — whether it is a feature of the world or a name for ignorance — and how the mind systematically misreads it, seeing patterns where none exist. Prediction extends this: humans are far worse predictors than they believe, and the gap between confidence and accuracy compounds the consequences of biased data.

What Data Can and Cannot Show

Selective Evidence covers the systematic distortions that corrupt statistical inference: biased inputs produce biased conclusions; correlation does not establish causation; and the data we analyze is never the full picture — it is a selected sample shaped by what was easy to collect, what survived, and what confirmed existing hypotheses.
